Was It Worth It?

Arguments

Have you ever had a argument with someone that you later thought back on and the disagreement was so minimal? The topic that was debated was so simple, non-essential, not worth the time? Most times my wife and I argue (I know I find it crazy that she would argue with me too) we later look back on the topic and laugh at the issue. The topics and details of most arguments are so unimportant.

Paul experienced a similar issue, he writes the church in Colossea to deal with this issue.

So don’t let anyone condemn you for what you eat or drink, or for not celebrating certain holy days or new moon ceremonies or Sabbaths. For these rules are only shadows of the reality yet to come. And Christ himself is that reality. (Colossians 2:16-17)

There was a population in the church that continued to argue and condemn others for their actions and thoughts (I know the issues back then are so different then now right?) they continued to disagree with what foods were acceptable and what days are holy. Paul is attempting to communicate that theses disagreements are not worth the energy.

Have you condemned another over style, traditions, thoughts? Do you judge becuase someone else does it differently? Do you think your way is best? Now, Paul is not saying just love everybody and don’t worry about others actions and thoughts. He is telling the church of Collosea and we too need to hear this, stop arguing over the personal preferences of style, tradition, and ceremonies and start focusing on the truths of the Scripture. Keep your brothers and sisters accountable to the word of God, help them build their relationship with Christ. Everything else is an aid, some enjoy hymns (great) others enjoy loud music (cool) but those are just assisting you to worship God.
