DEFINITION OF SUCCESS

Everyone has their definition of success...

Money. House. Career. Vacations. Location. Status. Recognition. Retirement. Savings. Cars. Ability. Friends. Family. More. More. More.

But what if that is not it? What if that leads to the same struggle just with a new package. Because even when you finally achieve and get that thing soon you will want someTHING else. Then it is just the attempt of getting that thing. Then that thing. Then the next thing. And on and on.

A few months ago I went on a trip/vacation/wedding to Nicaragua (you didn't even know there was such a place). This is where my wife is originally from and she still has most of her family there. We were able to go for two weeks. Meeting a lot of family. Celebrating my brother-in-laws wedding. It was beautiful. But here is the thing... When I look back on my social media posts I came across one that made me think. Check it out...

Maybe you look at this photo and think what I do. Beautiful. That would be nice everyday.

Here is the thing though... Most of us post on social media the good. The things we want to be recognized for. Not the fights with a spouse. The frustration of raising kids. The stress of a dwindling bank account. The difficulty at work.

The other problem is that we always look at others posts or just the other side and think it is better. So we look at where we live and wish we were somewhere else. We look at what vacations we can go on and stack them up against other peoples vacations.

OR. A greater problem.

We begin to get proud of what we can do. What we have. What we have in the bank account. The paystub. We get proud. And the problem when we get proud we get in a very dangerous place.

“They were proud of their beautiful jewelry and used it to make detestable idols and vile images. Therefore, I will make all their wealth disgusting to them.” Ezekiel‬ ‭7:20‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Here is the think God will take EVERYTHING away if it means we come back to Him. If it means we are proud not in ourselves but in our God, HE WILL DO IT.

So the question is... What is your definition of success? Do you find success in your identity in Christ? In your growth and faith in Him? Or is your definition of success what you selfishly and pridefully can obtain?
