Mayday: Crash And Burn

You ever felt like you were about to crash and burn? Your marriage is stressful and you feel like there is no joy or hope for you? Do you walk into a job that feels as if their main priority is to belittle you? Your family continues to say and act as if your not good enough? The financial stress on you is slowly weighing you down until you no longer can breathe?

We all have something right now that is stressing us out. The alarm in our cockpit is blaring but everything we do only seems to make it worse.

Although everything you have done so far has not worked there is a solution. The answer may be simple but actually ‘doing’ is harder than anything we have ever done.

This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1:9)

The backstory of Joshua 1:9 is Moses' death. Moses leads the Israelites until his death and once he died it was Joshua’s turn to lead. God explains to Joshua that if he follows the instructions that Moses followed as well he would continue on the journey to enter the promised land. And no matter the obstacles, mutiny in the camp, barren lands, battles, God is with you wherever you go.

No matter your obstacles, your issues, your God is with you!

The reality is that you still have issues, struggles, stress. And hearing Joshua 1:9 sounds good but what about the obstacle? Reading a verse is not going to fix it.

Stop right now and sit in silence. Allow your mind to stop, stop focusing on the issues and start focusing on God. When our attention and our focus are on God we begin to see and experience the things that matter. For Joshua, he had a plan to begin the journey but the journey was still unknown. He had to step out in faith. If he took every step in faith, even when the stress bore down on him God would continue to complete the work. He would have an exit strategy. But when we take control we take God out of the equation and now what was impossible is just that, impossible because you ain't good enough.

Too often we think and focus on the bad things, the obstacles. I have no issue thinking of all the negative things in my life. In my job, my marriage, my relationships, my finances. But we MUST put our focus on what truly matters. And that when our focus is right the obstacles begin to be resolved, God gives us the understanding and ability to resolve and find a strategy for the journey.

Be strong and courageous

Be strong and courageous, for you are the one who will lead these people to possess all the land I swore to their ancestors I would give them. (Joshua 1:6)

God tells Joshua in 1:6 to “Be strong and courageous, for you are the now who will lead these people.” Today I believe God is telling you to be strong and courageous. To stand firm in your identity when your identity is found in Christ. He has plans for you, plans to prosper, to succeed. The road is not easy, it will take everything you got and when that is given it will take more, that is where God comes in. Then you will truly experience power. You will experience your promised land. You will not fail when you surrender your ways to God.

Today allow God to take the controls. The alarms may be sounding, the plane may be in a downward spiral but if you release the controls and focus on God the wrongs can be righted. Until our last breath, there is a chance. Just stop trying to solve it on your own.
