SEARCHING FOR A FEELING

Are you searching for a feeling? You know the feeling you get when the hair on your arm stands on end or the excitement you get when you see that person walk into the room. Let me get this out there right away; I'm not just talking about love between a couple/marriage/etc... I'm talking much more than that.

LOVE IN THE BIBLE HAS A LOT LESS TO DO WITH DATING, MARRIAGE, OR SEX THAN YOU REALIZE.

Can I be even more focused? Most of what we read in the Bible when it comes to love has nothing to do with dating/marriage/sex/etc... So when we read about love in Scripture, what is it?

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. - 1 Corinthians 13:4-8a

So if love is not a physical thing, what is it? Well, that's what makes it difficult. You can't touch it or point at it, and when that is the case, it leads us to some wrong definitions. For some, you are searching for a feeling. But when that feeling fades away, what do you have? I don't see in Scripture where we are told that love fades and feels?

WHEN THE FEELING FADES AWAY WHAT ARE YOU LEFT WITH?

So I leave this conversation without much wisdom... But I leave it with this; what are you searching for? Are you seeking another feeling? The person you are dating or married to no longer gives you that special 'feeling,' so now you are questioning if they are the 'right' person. Are you searching for the feeling at church? You use to feel something more in worship, but it doesn't seem like you do anymore, so you begin to question the church or the person or yourself. Stop searching for a feeling and start seeking truth.
