THIS IS MY TRUTH

The Struggle that is becoming more apparent than ever before is that of reality. Facts. Truth. Maybe you realize the same thing I am noticing, people are beginning to believe their realities, and it is in direct contrast to others. You probably heard the saying, "this is my truth." How is that even possible? Truth is not based on personal opinions. But to be honest, this is not a new problem.


We do this in so many different ways, the relationships that we have. You have decided something about someone based on your preconceived ideas and experiences and determined them to be facts. I have seen this in the church as well. And that should not be a surprise because the church is just a big family, which means we are sometimes pretty dysfunctional.


Serve in the church long enough, and you begin to see people, staff, and lay leaders complain about the way things are, the way things used to be, that other ministries actions, etc. And then, instead of solving any issues, we build walls even bigger.


Whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable — if anything is excellent or praiseworthy — think about such things. - Philippians 4:8

We allow our minds to control our realities. Reality fades into the distance as we let our assumptions rise to the forefront. We then accept our dysfunction with statements like "this is just the way it is" or "we all have our problems," and that leaves us to do nothing.


Maybe today, the best thing you can do is to think about the good stuff. Don't allow yourself to go down the trail of your thoughts. Because your thoughts fail you, start to think about the things God is doing. Focus on the good. One way I love to do this is through the church. Because the church is messy and dysfunctional, but it is also the Bride of Christ. And that means through the mess, and people will see something important.
